Commercial Door Regulations
Most owners/managers have a legal obligation under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 to ensure that any systems under their control are safe for anyone coming into contact with them.
Also, under the Workplace (Health, Safety & Welfare) Regulations 1992, Regulations 5 & 18 – require owners to ensure that doors and gates are maintained in a safe condition with specific requirements regarding anti-fall-back protection on vertically moving doors.
For the equipment maintainer, the Electricity at Work Regulations require equipment to be isolated for maintenance and that, under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, any systems worked on are left in a safe condition.
Systems will also fall under the Provision & Use of Work Equipment Regulations, the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 and Construction Products Regulations 2013 as well as specific regulations for Automatic Doors under BS EN 16005 and Powered Doors, Gates and Barriers under BS EN 12453 amongst many others.
